CICLO – Paula Petiz Atelier

Paula Petiz

Born in Porto, Portugal, in 1957, she lived and studied in Mozambique since elementary school until entering University. At that time, she returned to Porto to study architecture, a course that did not exist then in Mozambique.
She attended the School of Fine Arts of Porto and graduated from the ‘Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto – FAUP’ in 1986.
After working for some time as an independent architect in her own company, between 1999 and 2018, she worked as a teacher and as a researcher, in the ‘Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto.
During all these years, in her spare time, she experimented and made jewelry for herself, using what she had at home.
Out of curiosity and pleasure, she closely followed the work of some Portuguese jewelers, from Porto.
In 2018, after a benchmark experience at the ‘Alquimia’ - Jewelry School, in Porto, she began working in jewelry as her main occupation.
She starts the ‘CICLO’ project, to design and execute pieces with disposable objects and surplus production in a process of experimentation.
From 2021 she has participated in several workshops arranged by Galeria Alice Floriano. Either through the discussion of texts and notions or through project work, she feels stimulated to explore states of mind and advocate real causes, expressing herself through pieces of jewelry. Examples of this are the collections 'Archaeology of the senses' and 'For the sake of freedom'.
Her pieces are often exhibited and sold at ‘THE Design’ store in Porto and Lisbon, Portugal.
One of her pieces was chosen to publish in ‘Arte y Joya - Contemporary Yearbook ‪2020-2021‬”, and another one was chosen for ‘Antivirus - Tincal Lab Challenge 2021- exhibition and sale’.‬‬‬‬
Her work has been exhibited work at “Milano Jewelry Week 2022”, at “Romanian Jewelry Week 2022 - Bucareste” and “Romanian Jewelry Week - Timisoara, Special edition 2023”.
From 16 to 17 September, she will take part as an invited guest in “Open doors of artists' studio”, organized by 'Grez' Arts - Association des artistes de Grez-sur-Loing’, in France.
Also in 2023, she will take part in the special edition of “Romanian Jewelry Week”, the first contemporary Jewelry exhibition in Moldova Republic which will take place in the National History Museum in Chisinau, from 17th to 31st august.
