Hamaila (huh-my-luh) is, first and foremost, a designer. After her formal science-oriented degree, she sought knowledge in any subject that interested her. Welding classes led to jewelry classes and, once there, she never looked back. She firmly believes that good design can make the world a better, more equitable place for all and partakes in that by making small beautiful things that can change the way we perceive and experience the world. Her jewelry work takes inspiration from the stories of the people and places around her as well as the juxtaposition of rigid geometry and organic forms. In 2020, Hamaila was awarded Gildform’s Best in Design Award for her Nabi Cube Earrings and, later in the year, she relocated to Arcosanti, AZ where she currently resides and creates. In 2021, Hamaila was also one of the Halstead Grant”s semi-finalists. The Halstead Grant news isn’t available to the public yet, but it will be public on September 30th.
