Luma Handcrafted Jewelry

Luma Handcrafted Jewelry

Luisa M. Florez Herran or Luma, as her close friends call her, explores textile techniques on metals in her recent works, creating statement pieces of jewelry that are lightweight and resistant for everyday life.

Luisa started to crochet with wire as a mechanism to cope with anxiety. She found ease in its repetitive motions and the memories from when her grandmother taught her how to crochet when she was a child back in her home country. Later, she integrated it into her work while obtaining her M.A. in jewelry from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Drawing inspiration from the chaos in the cosmos, she arranges entropic beaded compositions over the systematic and organized woven wire constructions. She uses the repetition of small elements to create larger, complex, and colorful compositions.
