Amanu Itomi Jewelry begins with the basic concept of taking a simple flat piece of metal and crafting it into a piece of wearable art for approximately eight years. The designer, Amanu, served as a silversmith apprentice for four years under Henry Baba Osageyfo Colby, master silversmith and founder of the Timbuktu Art Colony. As an apprentice silversmith, he was able to learn the ancient art and intricate skills of crafting fine metals, stones, and gems into wearable art. In addition to learning the craft of making custom artisan jewelry, in that position. He was also able to acquire skills in marketing, sales, and building customer relationships. As he ascended from apprentice to master, his journey into the world of designing has been one of ebbs and flows. Aman has become known by many as the Basquiat of Metal. In the early years Aman Itomi art pieces were seen, appreciated, and worn by celebrities such as Earth Wind and Fire, India Arie, Super Model Iman, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Mos Def, Chaka Khan, Nappy Roots, and shown on top models at New York Fashion Week, and others. Today these authentic pieces can be found on celebrities such as Lil Nas X, Billy Porter, Stevie Wonder, Nas, Maluma, Leon Bridges and Sean Diddy Combs. Aman Itomi Jewelry has graced the covers of Time Magazine (twice), Harper’s Bazaar Men – China and U.S., and Palms Spring Magazine. Aman Itomi was sold the line at the historic Eastern Market in Washington, D.C and the fashion district in Soho.
