Deborah Meyers Experience
Deborah Meyers Experience
Deborah Meyers merges contemporary aesthetics with the jewelry making processes of the ancients. Her singular pieces incorporate oxidized mixed metals, delicate gemstones, and rough textures alongside traditional 22 carat gold, introducing a rich and current narrative to centuries of historical adornment. These unexpected visual counterpoints reflect her training as a goldsmith as well as her decades-long study of jewelry made by the Etruscans and Egyptians many centuries ago.
Meyers presents each element in its best light- the undulating curves of the Keshi pearl, the gritty surface of oxidized sterling, the warm and layered tones of a slice of agate, the smooth malleability of gold- and then brings them into conversation. These groupings spark a new dialogue, some showing a jaggedly romantic edge and others playing off a lighter whimsy, but always combining delicacy and strength to reflect the individuality of the wearer. Contrasts of patina and surface feel substantial and well worn, reinforcing the timeless gestures of love, care, pleasure, and celebration that accompany the act of wearing jewelry. No matter the design, a unique and hand made story unfolds with each piece, informed by history but firmly set in the present.
