Luisa Florez Herran

Luisa was born and raised in Colombia. She earned a BFA in Industrial Design in 2014. After graduation, she moved to New York City as an Au Pair, seeking new experiences and inspiration. During this time, she rediscovered her love for jewelry making by taking a metalsmithing class at the School of Visual Arts (SVA). This experience reignited her passion for the craft and led her to pursue further education in jewelry design.

Upon returning to Colombia, Luisa continued to study jewelry and developed her skills. Her dedication to the craft led her to pursue an M.A. in Jewelry at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). She graduated in 2021 with an Outstanding Academic Achievement Award of the School of Fashion.

Now based in New York City, Luisa works from her home studio, where she creates delicate jewelry using wire crochet techniques. Her work has been recognized with two design awards, and she has participated in several curated exhibitions, showcasing her unique style and craftsmanship.

In her most recent work, Luisa explores her personal experiences with bipolar disorder and ADHD. She uses her craft as a way to cope with symptoms and to start conversations about these topics. Through her jewelry, she aims to convey the complexities of living with these conditions, fostering understanding and empathy among her audience.
