Jed Green
Jed’s practice defies categorisation, existing at the dynamic intersection of jewellery, sculpture and object. Her distinctive handmade pieces, crafted from an eclectic palette that includes borosilicate glass, silver, gold, wood, stainless steel, paper, paint, and pearls, blur the boundaries between wearable adornment and sculptural form. They are intimate landscapes—three-dimensional collages that speak of memory, place and the beauty of impermanence. They tell stories of travel, discovery and the emotional treasures gathered along the way.
She is inspired by the use of inexpensive everyday materials in order to create unique and precious pieces. Clear hollow borosilicate glass tubes are lampworked, carved and cut into intricate organic or architectural shapes. These elements are then assembled into kinetic clusters or miniature environments through a process of pinning, drilling, and delicate construction. Layers of colour, created by painting the inner glass walls and applying handmade transfers to outer surfaces, lend the pieces an ethereal, multidimensional quality. Wood is cut, carved and dyed adding structure and support also allowing certain elements to open and small containers revealed.
This series of work began in 2020 during a time of change both in living and working environments. Rediscovering work and old sketchbooks packed away for years ignited a process of reconnection. This return to earlier forms and ideas catalysed a new artistic direction, culminating in Wear / Display—a series of interactive, multifunctional pieces that invite reinterpretation. Whether worn, displayed as sculpture, or used as vessels, these works challenge traditional definitions of adornment offering a rich and tactile experience.
Jed exhibits at Goldsmiths’ Fair London and is represented by Ruup & Form Gallery exhibiting at London Art Fair and Collect.
