Emily Yuwei Chen

Emily Chen is an artist based in New York, specializing in painting and jewelry making. She obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in both Painting and Jewelry and Metalsmithing from the Rhode Island School of Design. During her academic journey, she adeptly merged two- and three-dimensional thinking. Currently, her artistic focus revolves around the integration of these two disciplines to inspire interdisciplinary exploration.

Her artwork features a strong underpinning of mathematical structures, giving rise to imagery rooted in geometric concepts. The recurring presence of spherical forms in her work symbolizes well-defined boundaries. Utilizing paint as her medium, she manipulates light as a form of energy, shattering conventional form boundaries. In her artistic philosophy, a sphere represents not only a boundary but also serves as a source for generating smaller spheres. By reimagining everything as spheres and as generators of spheres, she elucidates the concept of how an unscripted "thing" can exist in its true essence. Her contemplation of spheres challenges conventional perceptions, perpetually circulating within her canvases. This exploration navigates the emotional resonance of new beginnings, endings, and the narratives conveyed through the formality of inanimate objects.
