Maya Rose Weiss utilizes ancient basket weaving techniques to create her jewelry collection Yayaand. She explores the connection between jewelry and weaving as a way to localize this unique intersection of history, craft tradition, and lineage. Maya is inspired by the magic of two-dimensional strands transforming into three-dimensional forms through weaving techniques. The way in which the soft pliable fibers demand attention, receptivity and adaptability spark the fire of her creative process. Maya creates hollow, lightweight and idiosyncratic pieces that provide a connection to both ancient wisdom and modern innovation, in a way that compliments the body.

Since graduating from Pratt Institute in 2018, Maya Rose Weiss has exhibited at Whitespace Collect Popup, The Boca Art Museum, Aqua Art Miami, Whitespace Gallery, and the Pratt Admissions Gallery. Maya has also written an article about her creative process that is being published in The BEAUTY Issue, Autor Magazine no. 6.
