MJ Tyson is an artist whose work is centered on the relationship between people and their possessions. MJ often makes use of collections, unconventional casting, and record keeping. Interests in value and material culture have led her to the worlds of jewelry, art appraisal, and museum conservation.

Recent exhibitions include The Last Objects at Brooklyn Metal Works in 2018, The Procession, a two person exhibition with Luci Jockel at R & Company during NYCJW 2019, and Non-Stick Nostalgia at Museum of Arts and Design in 2019. ESP, a large necklace cast from MJ’s personal belongings, is on view in 45 Stories in Jewelry at Museum of Arts and Design through 2021.

MJ lives and works in New Jersey. She is the winner of the 2020 AJF Young Artists Award and part of NYCJW’s One for the Future program. MJ received a BFA and MFA in Jewelry + Metalsmithing from Rhode Island School of Design. She teaches at Brooklyn Metal Works and Pratt Institute.
